A. Essential oils are aromatic volatile liquids distilled from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds of plants. They are extracts from the plant fluids that move through the plant’s circulatory system in the leaves, stems, roots and flowers. These fluids maintain the life of the plant, akin to human blood.
Q. What makes essential oils so potent?
A. The chemistry of essential oils is highly complex. Each is a mosaic of hundreds or even thousands of different chemicals. Any given essential oil may contain anywhere from 80 to 300 different chemical constituents. These tiny molecules can pass through cell walls and membranes, delivering therapeutic benefits directly where they are needed the most.
Q. What are the benefits of therapeutic-grade essential oils?
A. Therapeutic-grade essential oils are nature’s most powerful antimicrobial, antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal agents. They increase the uptake of oxygen in the body, fight infection, stimulate our immune function, balance physiological systems, and initiate regeneration. Some enhance circulation and immune function. Because their chemical structure is similar to that found in human cells and tissues, essential oils are readily identified and accepted by the body, stimulating the secretion of antibodies, neurotransmitters, endorphins, hormones, and enzymes. Many oils are antitumoral.
Q. What makes essential oils different from other natural therapeutic agents?
A. Essential oils have unique ability to act on both the mind and the body. The fragrance of some oils can be highly stimulating, both psychologically and physically, while the fragrance of others may be calming and sedating, helping to overcome anxiety or hyperactivity. Because of their high levels of concentration, essential oils are far more potent than dried herbs. It often requires an entire plant or more to produce a single drop of distilled essential oil. Adding a single drop of peppermint oil to a glass of water equals in value and effect to 26 cups of mint tea.
Q. What is the history of essential oils?
A. Essential oils are considered mankind’s first medicine and have been recognized and used by humans for over 5,000 years. They are frequently called God’s natural medicine and are mentioned over 500 times in the Bible. They were used by Moses, Aaron, Mary, and Joseph. Jesus also received and used them (the fabled Frankincense and Myrrh, brought to him as a present upon his birth) and taught his disciples to anoint the sick with oil and heal them.
Q. What is the difference between therapeutic-grade essential oils and any others?
A. There is a significant difference between essential oils that simply smell good and those that are therapeutic-grade. In order to produce the desired therapeutic effects, the oils must be produced from the right plants, grown in exceptional soil, and harvested at exactly the right time. The distillation process is critical as well, and the final product must be 100% pure.
Q. Can I use the oils sold at my local health food store?
A. Unfortunately, the regulation of natural therapeutic agents in the U.S. remains inadequate. In contrast to Europe, many oils sold here, even those carrying the “pure” and “therapeutic-grade” label, are adulterated, engineered, or “extended” with the use of colorless, odorless synthetic solvents such as diethylphthalate or dipropylene glycol. Without the knowledge of the source of the oil, the only way to know the difference is frequently the price of the oil. If you are looking at an $8 dollar bottle of lavender, you can be certain that this is adulterated, low-grade or even 100% synthetic oil. Always know the source of the oil you are buying.
Q. What is a good source of essential oils?
A. After extensive research and personal investigation, I use and recommend the oils produced by Young Living. Young Living oils are carefully cultivated in accordance with traditional methods of agriculture, are steam distilled, always 100 percent pure, and meet the highly stringent French AFNOR and international ISO standards.
Q. How do I buy Young Living oils?
A. Young Living offers an opportunity to buy its oils at wholesale or retail prices. To buy at wholesale prices (15-25% below the retail price), go to www.youngliving.com, go to your country, then to the “Sign Up” tab, and select the “Independent Distributor” tab. When prompted to put in the “Enrollee” or “Sponsor” number, put in 939435, which is my number, or the number of the person who first introduced you to Young Living. The one-time fee for joining at this level is $40 (akin to Costco). The welcome package will include, among other things, a 5 ml bottle of lavender oil and a 5 ml bottle of peppermint oil. Joining at the “Customer” level is free.
Q. Do I have to be selling anything if I join at the Distributor level?
A. No. You are only asked to buy $50 worth of product per year - unless your want to.
Q. What is the business opportunity with Young Living?
A. For those interested, Young Living provides an opportunity to earn income through sharing your exeprience of using essential oils and oil-enhanced products with others. You don't have to carry an inventory or make hard sales. Your required level of commitment is $100 per month, which makes you eligible for significant bonuses. You don't have to buy anything you yourself don't want or can't use. You create as much in commissions as you want, from a couple hundred dollars per month to cover your own purchases of Young Living oils, to potentially tens of thousands per month.
With Young Living, we all have a chance to create prosperity and bring abundance into our lives in an earth-friendly and conscious way - and, in turn, help others do the same. This is a beautiful way to create true abundance all around - an abundance of health, wellness, friendship, and financial success.
The process is really beautiful. Each time the oils are used and shared, small amounts of money are shared with those who are participating in it. Instead of the corporations receiving all the financial wealth, it is divided among many people. As time goes by, we teach others how to help their friends and family, and as this continues, financial wealth abounds for all.
